Freemason Requirements

To become a Freemason you must:
  1. Be a man at least 19 years old.
  2. Be of good moral character.
  3. Have a personal belief in a Supreme Being. The definition of Supreme Being is left to the individual. Masonry teaches toleration and respect of all individual religious beliefs, and more importantly, of all human beings. Masonry counts among its members Christians, Jews, Moslems, Hindus, Buddhists, and men who have no particular religious sectarian affiliation.
  4. Decide to become a Mason based upon your own free will and accord; free of any pressure from another, and without any expectation to derive material gain, advancement or benefit from your association with Masonry.
  5. Be loyal to our country and willing to defend the principles of our American Democracy as expressed in our Nation's founding documents: the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights; and to protect our government and nation from any threat of tyranny, be it religious, political, economic, or foreign or domestic in origin.
  6. Be dedicated to providing, caring for, and nurturing your family.
  7. Have a sincere desire and determination to walk upright among your fellow men by conducting yourself in a manner that will earn their respect and trust. One of the goals of Masonry is to make good men better men.
  8. Possess a strong desire to raise and uplift humankind from the afflictions of ignorance, fear, intolerance, want, suffering, and need through education, service, compassion and benevolence. To treat all human beings, regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, or economic class with courtesy, respect, fairness and decency.

How To Join

Since Masonry does not openly solicit for members. You must communicate your interest in becoming a Mason. In other words, to be one, you must first ask one. You may follow any one of these simple steps.

1. Talk with someone you know who is a Freemason.

2. If you do not know anyone who is a Mason, you are always welcome to contact Star of the Lake Lodge by phone or email . One of our Brothers will be happy to meet with you over coffee, and answer any question you may have about Masonry and becoming a Mason. We'd also be happy to show you the lodge.

3. Finally, if you decide to join our Lodge, you must request and fill out a petition for membership; be investigated by a Committee from the lodge who will answer any of your questions about Masonry. Later, your application will be presented to the Lodge, and a secret ballot conducted in which Members vote on your suitability. You will be notified of the result, and if approved, you will be invited to the Lodge at a specified time and day for your initiation into the Brotherhood.
